Last week, our Year 2 students enjoyed an exciting day at the Caboolture Historical Village, where they explored life in the past as part of their HASS unit.

Throughout the day, students discovered what daily life was like many years ago, with the help of the village’s knowledgeable volunteers who shared many fascinating stories and facts from the past.
Students were especially interested to learn that school days once began with parade, where children would sing God Save the King. They also discovered that families often bathed only once a week - and even shared the same bath water!
The excursion included a range of hands-on experiences that helped bring history to life. Students had the chance to try fossicking and were able to take home any gems they found. They also watched blacksmiths transform horseshoes into artwork and even had the opportunity to try on old-fashioned handcuffs.

Students also explored historical buildings, transport and tools, helping them imagine what everyday life may have looked like in the past.

This excursion was a wonderful opportunity for students to immerse themselves in history, and we are confident they all came away having learnt a great deal.
